Dear swimmer,
Thank you for volunteering for the 7th Annual Distant Memories Swim!
On Monday, July 26, 2010, the Distant Memories swimmers will leave Asharoken Beach in Northport and head to Knollwood Beach in Huntington. The goal of the swim is to raise awareness for Alzheimer ’s disease and funds for the Alzheimer’s Association Long Island chapter which supports research, provides information, influences public policy, develops training for professional caregivers, and helps the 55,000 families here on Long Island impacted by this disease. (Go to the swim web site and click on the link for AALI to get more information)
In the weeks before the swim, ask friends, family and coworkers to sponsor you for the swim. Put flyers with your name on them in mailboxes and post them so people who know you will sponsor you. Checks should be made out to: AALI – Distant Memories Swim. Those who want a receipt for tax purposes should write a check, provide their address, and the AALI will send them one shortly after this event. Cash donations are of course acceptable too. (Check out “Fundraising Tips” on the site.)
Tally and bring the money you have raised to Asharoken Beach the day of the swim. Donations can also be made directly on the swim web site. Donate Here -->
Arrive at Asharoken Beach by 11:30 AM the latest. You, or your parent if under 18 years old, will be required to sign a “Hold Harmless” insurance waiver before starting to swim at high tide which is 12 noon. Have someone drop you off or make arrangements to have someone bring you back to pick up your car afterwards OR meet you with your vehicle at Knollwood Beach after you reach land 1-2 hours later. Please call 631-261-5161 before 10AM if you cannot make the swim so we are not waiting for you. (Cell phone service is not good down at the water.)
Any questions, call 631-261-5161.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Bryan Proctor
This year's swim is in memory of Albert Rivoire.
