Letter to the Swimmer

Dear Swimmer,

On behalf of me, my family, the Alzheimer’s Association of Long Island, and those directly or indirectly affected by Alzheimer’s disease, THANK YOU. Your choice to participate in this year’s Distant Memories Swim will have a large impact on those on Long Island affected by Alzheimer’s disease. This cause if very close to my heart and I am extremely thankful for your willingness to make a difference in the lives of those affected by this disease. The money you raise will continue to help the AALI provide resources and assistance to those in need.

The first swim was held in 2003 with me as its only swimmer escorted by a single kayak. The initial plan for the swim was not to have it grow in participants, however after the first year I was fortunate enough to be joined by friends and family. Soon after, participants included others from different parts of Long Island who shared in my cause and chose to participate by my side.

The growth of this event is a testament of how many people are affected by the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease. I am looking forward to once again seeing those who have participated in the past as well as those who are swimming for the first time. Please refer to the Important Information section of memoryswim.org. There is new information that swimmers will have to know before the date of the swim. If there are any questions you may have regarding the swim, please email me at info@memoryswim.org. Please leave your contact information in case I need to get in touch with you further.

Sincerely,
Bryan Proctor
