Important Information
Please arrive 1 hour before the swim is set to start.
If you cannot participate in the swim, please contact (631) 261-5161 at least 2 hours before the swim so we are not waiting for you.
Each swimmer must provide a kayak escort for themselves. This is for your safety and the safety of your fellow swimmers! If you are unable to provide a kayak escort you must contact info@memoryswim.org 3 Weeks prior to the swim date. Each year we do have individuals who volunteer to kayak. However, these volunteers are limited. When registering for the swim please provide name and contact information of your kayaker.
If you choose not to swim and would like to kayak or help in any other fashion we encourage as many volunteers as possible. Although swimmers are asked to be sponsored we do not discourage kayakers from fundraising if they choose to do so.
The swim was created in order to raise money to fight Alzheimer’s disease. We do not charge a registration fee. The success of the event depends on sponsorship of each of the participating swimmers. The expense of the swim increases with each participant. If an individual does not raise money the event then loses money. All money raised goes to the Alzheimer's Association Long Island (AALI). We ask that you do your best to raise money in order to contribute to the success of the event.
The swim was created as a challenge. This is not a competitive event. If you would like to have an official time of completion please bring your own timer.
The swim begins at one location and ends at another. Have someone drop you off at Asharoken Beach or make arrangements to have someone bring you back to pick up your car afterwards OR meet you with your vehicle at Knollwood Beach after you reach land 1-2 hours later. Asharoken Beach is a Town of Huntington Beach and closes at 8pm. After this time the lot gate will be locked. You will not be able to pick up your vehicle until the following morning at 8am when the beach lot opens again.
Swimmers will be required to wear the swim caps provided. This is for your safety! With the growing number of swimmers it is very important to have visibility of all participants. There will be boat traffic. Even though there will be boat escorts it is important to take the correct precautions to ensure swimmer safety.
Swimmers and those kayaking will be required to sign a “Hold Harmless” insurance waiver before starting to swim. Those under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present to sign the waiver.
